Young people in Peru show off knowledge in Gold Fields radio contest

In 2017, Gold Fields once again joined forces with local education authorities in Hualgayoc, Peru, to produce the second season of Know to Win. Taking the form of a quiz show, this radio programme tests high school students’ knowledge about a range of topics, including mathematics, science, technology, the environment and history, and encourages them to keep learning.

Students from three local schools participated this year and competed against each other every week. Gold Fields ensured that the competition was run fairly, with the assistance of the students, education authorities and the radio station.

Members of the winning team (from Joaquin Bernal High School in Hualgayoc) each won a desktop computer and the runners up (from El Tingo High School in the El Tingo community) each received tablet computers.

At the recent prize-giving, Rodrigo Gil, an educational promotor in Hualgayoc, commented: “We are proud of all the students who participated in this contest. Every one of them is a winner, because they ‘won’ knowledge. We thank Gold Fields for this initiative and hope even more schools will participate next year.”

Know to Win forms part of Gold Fields’ focus on education in its communities.
